Description
Kozuka made of shakudo nanakoji, decorated with monkeys imitating playing kids. Mercury gilding.
In Japanese art monkeys are used to mock human behavior. On the left a monkey is wielding a bungaï while the one next to him is mimicking a child playing with a wooden horse. The third one is riding another monkey like a horse and wielding a wooden staff like a child wielding a wooden sword. In the middle a monkey is pulling on the tail of another one perched on a tree.
