Description
Chinese bronze mirror from the Tang dynasty, depicting lions, birds, grapefruits and foliated scrolls. The reverse initially polished to serve as a mirror.
This type of mirror originated from China between the Ist and the VIth century, and their fabrication became popular in Korea and Japan from the IIIrd century. In Japan, this type of mirror is designated as a “shinjukyo” (deity and beast mirror).
