Soapstone sculpture of a Chinese monk sitting among his books. He wears a richly decorated coat. His beard and his head are filled with black to appear more clearly.
Soapstone is a soft stone extensively used for sculpture. During the Qing dynasty it was one of the favorite materials of artistic production.
Period: late Qing, XIX.
Height: 13 cm without base. 15 cm with the base.
